There are 12 different classes in Path of Exile 2 with various abilities, but only a select few archetypes have the skills that can help solo players thrive in solitary adventures. Most classes have features that work best with allies, making them excellent in groups of multiple characters. However, if you’re playing solo, you must choose a class with enough self-sufficiency to survive without much support.
Although Path of Exile 2 has many changes from the first game in the series, much of its core gameplay remains the same. Your character has to face overwhelming hordes of enemies throughout their adventure, using their strongest abilities to clear hostile waves. This can be challenging for solo players since being on your own means that you must put in extra effort to take down everyone in your way.
Best Classes For Solo Players In Path Of Exile 2
Find Archetypes That Keep Your Character Alive Longer
Arguably, the best classes for solo players in Path of Exile 2 are:
- Warrior
- Mercenary
- Sorceress
- Witch
The Warrior is the “quintessential slamming guy,” or a strong physical attacker that focuses on melee strikes and mobility. This class is designed to take plenty of hits and keep on fighting, making for excellent tank-like builds with the right skills. This allows solo players to stay alive even in the toughest encounters, with abilities that allow you to recover health and deal huge AoE damage to enemy groups.

All Path of Exile Classes, Ranked Worst To Best
Path of Exile has several classes to choose from, with many additional ways to further customize each class, but some still stand above the rest.
The new Mercenary class in Path of Exile 2 is also excellent for solo play, mostly for its highly damaging attacks. Mercenaries can shred through challenging enemies and bosses easily using explosives or firearms exclusive to their archetype. This class’ abilities may be slow, but they deal huge AoE damage with ranged weapons that you can use in a versatile build to deal with any situation.
Anyone who chooses the Mercenary class also gets access to a lot of evasive skills, allowing them to make a build focused on hitting enemies from a distance and retreating when things get rough.
Anyone looking for a strong spellcasting class should consider the Sorceress for solo play, as this archetype has tons of flexibility. Any build of the Sorceress uses elemental magic to wipe out enemy crowds with powerful ranged spells that are potent at any stage of the game. Despite having lower health, you can also acquire plenty of defensive magic to make your character much stronger than you might expect.
The Witch is another spellcaster that’s great for solo play due to its primary ability to summon minions to their side. This class is extremely similar to the Necromancer archetype in Diablo 4, also summoning the undead to support your character. Although weak on your own, you can essentially build a personalized party as a Witch to overwhelm your enemies, flipping the odds that were originally against you.
Which Class Is Best & Why
Form A Party Without Other Players
The best class for solo play is the Witch, mainly for the archetype’s ability to supplement the loss of additional party members. Without other characters in a group, solo players lose out on damaging combos and better crowd control against larger enemy hordes. However, with the Witch, the undead minions you summon will become allies capable of accomplishing these same goals.
Skeletal minions can fulfill a variety of roles as allies, from simple warriors to long-range snipers who target enemies from afar. Some skeletons can even throw bombs, giving the Witch AoE damage not available in the class’ usual spells.
The Witch also gains access to powerful debuff skills that can make enemies weaker in fights. This will make combat encounters easier, especially for newer players trying to go on a solo adventure. Corrupting enemies gives your skeletal minions more opportunities to decimate hordes and bosses, only growing stronger as your build becomes more focused.

A Single Path Of Exile 2 Feature Confirmed Its The Diablo 4 Killer
There’s one announced feature in PoE 2 that might put the final nail in the coffin for the biggest ARPG franchise ever, and people should take notice.
The simple efficiency of the Witch’s gameplay makes the class more approachable than some of the others. While the Warrior has higher health and the Mercenary has more damage, either archetype has a complexity to their build paths that can make them difficult to use at higher levels.
There are no “wrong” choices for what class you want to use if you’re playing solo. Any class can become strong with a good enough build, so choose what you wish if you don’t want to use some of the other archetypes that are easier to approach solo play. That being said, any solo players in Path of Exile 2 who want to stay consistently strong should consider creating a Witch character.
